Milo or “Thespesia populnea” is also referred to as Pacific rosewood. It is a small tree that is along the coast in many parts of the world. It can grow as high as thirty-three feet but gets not larger than eleven to twelve inches in diameter. The heartwood ranges from dark red brown to a chocolate brown. This Milo is from Hawaii where it was brought to the islands by explorers and tradesmen.
Each serving tray is live edge carefully and custom-shaped and finished with Walrus oil, which is food safe. For cleaning use a damp rag and wipe off. Do not put in the dishwasher or submerge in water as the wood will absorb the water and possibly warp when it dries. When needed apply a coat of mineral oil or butcher block conditioner as needed. Use a clean cloth and rub it in on both sides and the edges. Let it sit for several hours absorbing into the wood. Howard’s Butcher Block Conditioner or Furniture Clinic Mineral Oil for Cutting Boards are examples. Just follow the directions from the manufacturer.
