Black-eyed Myrtle burl, Umbellularia californica, is found in Oregon and the forests of Northern California beautiful color, spicy aroma, and figure. It is also known as Bay Laurel, California Olive, Pepper wood, or Spice tree. Colors range drastically even in the same tree in a range from golden yellow, green, black, brown, tan, and violet. The tree can grow to a height of 50 to 80 feet with a diameter of two to three feet.
The finish contains three coats of Tung oil; sanded after each coat. Tung oil brings out the unique characteristics of the Black-eyed Myrtle burl. To maintain the beauty of the wood avoid using cleaning solutions instead use water in a damp rag. Remove the excess moisture with a clean towel.
