This English walnut sofa table is inlayed with copper. The table is 55” long, 9 3/8” wide, 2” thick and 30” high. The wood is from the client’s grandfather’s ranch in Colorado creating a family treasure. Also in the pictures you will see a shelf with a buffalo sculpture. The shelf is from the same tree.

“Juglans regia” or English walnut was brought to the US from Europe by early settlers. The tree can grow up to 120 feet tall and reach six feet in diameter. The heartwood is typically a pale brown sometimes a chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. The sapwood is nearly white. The bark is olive-brown when young and turns silvery-grey on older limbs and branches

Copper is the inlay. It is typically found in multiple states in the U.S. including Utah, Arizona, Montana, Michigan and New Mexico. Copper is very malleable and has a beautiful brown color that accents the English Walnut.

The finish contains four coats of Tung oil; sanded after each coat. Tung oil brings out the unique characteristics of the wood. The legs are from custom metal from Frank Seckler in Taos, NM. To maintain the beauty of the English Walnut avoid using cleaning solutions instead use water in a damp rag. Remove the excess moisture with a clean towel.
