Elm is also known as “ulmus americana” is typically found in the eastern and Midwest U.S. but is found in other areas of the country as they have been imported. The tree can grow up to 100 feet in height with a trunk up to three feet. The heartwood is a gold to red brown with lighter and darker streaks in the grain. The sapwood is typically a paler version of the heartwood. This elm was urban logged from a residence in Phoenix, AZ.
Copper is the inlay. It is typically found in multiple states in the U.S. including Utah, Arizona, Montana, Michigan, and New Mexico. Copper is very malleable and has a beautiful reddish-brown color that accents the elm. The finish contains six coats of hand-rubbed Tung oil; sanded after each coat. Tung oil brings out the unique characteristics of the wood.
