Available at the Finer Arts Gallery in Cave Creek.
“Blended” is Black Cluster Burl Myrtle with stone inlay. It is 18” long, 9” wide and 2” deep. Black Cluster Burl Myrtle is a variation of myrtle burl with darker and more frequent variations in the wood. It is typically found along the coastal regions of central and northern California and Southern Oregon. Myrtle trees are two to three feet wide and grow up to 85 feet. The figured patterns are the result of the burl which is usually a virus within the wood while it was still growing. Although sometimes the burl results from trauma the tree may have suffered. This black cluster burl myrtle is from Oregon.
Agate is chalcedony, silica and quartz. There are many types of agate. They are found in “host” rocks that are usually metamorphic or volcanic. Extremely fine grain and a variety of color is a mainstay of agate.
The finish contains two coats of Tung oil; sanded after each coat. Tung oil brings out the unique characteristics of the black cluster burl myrtle. To maintain the beauty of the black cluster burl myrtle avoid using cleaning solutions instead use water in a damp rag. Remove the excess moisture with a clean towel. For polishing a beeswax solution such as Howard Feed-N-Wax or Artisan Lemon Oil Wax is good. Just follow the directions from the manufacturer. Questions, you can call us anytime at 206-679-4084.
