Maple burl also known as Acer nigrum, Acer rubrum and Acer saccharum is native to the United States and Canada. The curly figure pattern appears in the soft maple varieties of maple. The curly figure is when the grain is distorted into a wavy pattern which is sometimes referred to as tiger maple or fiddleback. This spalted maple is from the Pacific Northwest.
Sonoran Sunset is jasper that comes from Sonora, Mexico. It is known for an array of color combinations including and orangeish red Chalcotricite, Cuprite which is red, Chrysocolla a blue/green and the black is iron.
Chyrsocolla is a hydrated phyllosilicate mineral. It comes from Greek chrysos meaning ‘gold’ and kola ‘glue’ although its color is typically a combination of blue and green. Chyrsocolla is found in the United States in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico. Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Idaho. The Chyrsocolla used in this table is from Arizona.
Copper is the inlay. It is typically found in multiple states in the U.S. including Utah, Arizona, Montana, Michigan, and New Mexico. Copper is very malleable and has a beautiful reddish-brown color.
The finish contains five coats of Tung oil, sanded after each coat. Wood does expand and contract making it subject to slight checking, cracking and movement. To maintain the beauty of the maple avoid using cleaning solutions instead use water in a damp rag. Remove the excess moisture with a clean towel. For polishing a beeswax solution such as Howard Feed-N-Wax or Artisan Lemon Oil Wax is good. Just follow the directions from the manufacturer. Questions, you can call us anytime at 206-679-4084.
