The heartwood is an array of colors varying from light greens to ambers to purples and browns and blacks. The sapwood is a pale yellow. The tree originated in Central Asia, Iran and Afghanistan. Now Pistachio trees are found in hot and dry climate, such as California and parts of Arizona along with Southern Europe, the Mediterranean, Turkey, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and India, Pistachios, like grapes, grow in clusters. The tree produces fruit in shoots created the previous year by buds. The pistachio tree typically starts producing yields in its seventh year and continues for up to 100 years or more. This is a “double pistachio” cut from the base of two branches of the tree. It was urban logged in Phoenix.

The finish contains three coats of Tung oil; carefully sanded after each coat. Tung oil brings out the unique characteristics of the pistachio. Wood does expand and contract making it subject to slight checking, cracking and movement. To maintain the beauty of the pistachio avoid using cleaning solutions instead use water in a damp rag. Remove the excess moisture with a clean towel. For polishing a beeswax solution such as Howard Feed-N-Wax or Artisan Lemon Oil Wax is good. Just follow the directions from the manufacturer.
