Oregon Black Walnut is also known as Claro Walnut and Western Walnut. The trees were first planted by settlers in Oregon during1800s creating orchards, a source for food. Over the past two hundred years they have cross-pollinated. Oregon Black Walnut is typically a hybrid with each tree having individual characteristics. In this piece there are streaks of claro walnut with unique patterns and spalting that reflects a marbled presentation with swirling brown, gray, and black streaks. This Oregon Black Walnut is from the Pacific Northwest. The inlay is Oregon black walnut powder mixed with epoxy.
The finish contains four coats of hand-rubbed Tung oil; sanded after each coat. Tung oil brings out the unique characteristics of the wood.
